Fitness Exercise
To achieve optimal fitness it is necessary to include aerobic and resistance exercise routines at least 4-5 times a week. Our bodies are designed to move not remain sedentary to maintain optimal muscle mass and fitness. An ideal routine would include 30-45minutes of fast walking, going up and down stairways 3-4 times, hiking on hilly terrain, treadmill, elliptical machines, swimming, bicycling, etc. 3 times a week and 45-60 minutes of resistance exercises such as lifting free weights at a gym or your home, Pilates, using resistance weight machines at a gym, a total gym machine, etc. twice a week. This will build your muscle mass and keep you at your optimal weight as well as help with heart health, reduce daily stress, increase circulation to your whole body, increase your flexibility and slow down the aging process.
Stretching routines are optimal when they are done after you have engaged in 30-40 minutes of aerobic or resistance exercises, the ligaments and tendons are warmed up and you will more efficiently achieve optimal stretching and increase flexibility to these areas. This also ensures that you will not end up with stiffness the day after you exercise vigorously.
Exercise is a vital contributor to extending quality of life by reducing stress, enhancing total body health, promoting mental and emotional wellness, and extending our life expectancy. A commitment to a weekly routine and a balanced program is just as important as brushing your teeth is to the health and longevity of your dental health. In this society we have many habits that interfere with this commitment, we drive everywhere, we sit at desks and computers, most of out time requires us to be sedentary. That is why it is so important to find movement activities that we enjoy and can engage in as often as possible.
